Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticised the All Progressives Congress over what he described as attempts to frustrate the progress of Osun State under his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke. Davido made the remarks on Monday while reacting to the large crowd that attended the inauguration of the Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife. The singer shared videos from the event on his X account and expressed confidence in his uncle’s political prospects, declaring that the crowd’s turnout showed strong support for the governor.
Davido, who has consistently campaigned for Adeleke ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election, wrote in reaction to a video showing residents gathered at the inauguration: “Jesus, see Ile-Ife crowd!! For @AAdeleke_01!!! Done deal! You can’t stop God’s project!!” His comments were widely interpreted as a response to the opposition APC, which has intensified its campaign against the incumbent governor and is seeking to unseat him in the election. Davido has previously urged Osun residents to reject violence and intimidation and participate peacefully in the electoral process.
The latest exchange comes amid increasingly intense political competition in Osun, with Adeleke seeking a second term and the APC campaigning on the promise of providing an alternative government. The governor’s administration has highlighted infrastructure projects as part of its record, including the completion of hundreds of kilometres of roads and major flyovers across the state. Davido’s continued public support adds a strong celebrity voice to Adeleke’s campaign, as both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and opposition parties mobilise supporters ahead of the closely watched election.
