The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has said he has never had sexual relations with another woman since marrying his wife, Sherifat. The former Osun State governor made the disclosure while addressing supporters at an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Aregbesola, who has been married to Sherifat since 1983, said his commitment to marital fidelity was rooted in his personal convictions and relationship with God.
Speaking about his marriage, Aregbesola presented his decades-long relationship with his wife as an example of commitment and loyalty. He said he had deliberately remained faithful throughout their marriage and had not engaged in an intimate relationship with another woman. The declaration came during his campaign activities for the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, as the party intensifies its efforts to challenge the major contenders in the Osun governorship election.
Aregbesola’s comments have attracted attention beyond the political campaign because of the unusual personal nature of the disclosure from a prominent political figure. His remarks also come at a politically significant moment in Osun, with the ADC seeking to strengthen its position ahead of Saturday’s election. The former governor has been actively campaigning for the party and its candidate, while urging voters to support what the ADC describes as an alternative political platform in the state.
