A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Dotun Babayemi, has appealed to residents to ensure that the August 15 governorship election is conducted peacefully, warning against actions that could lead to bloodshed. Babayemi, who serves as Director-General of the Osun West Governorship Campaign Council of the APC, made the appeal in a statement issued by his media office on Sunday. He urged voters to exercise their civic rights responsibly and support the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, whom he described as capable of delivering transformational leadership to the state.
Babayemi stressed that the election should not become an avenue for political violence, intimidation or confrontation among supporters of rival parties. His appeal comes amid heightened political activities and concerns over security as the major contenders intensify their campaigns ahead of the poll. The APC chieftain urged residents to prioritise the peace and stability of Osun State regardless of their political affiliations, while encouraging voters to come out and participate in the democratic process without fear.
He further called on the electorate to use their votes to bring about what he described as positive change in Osun, arguing that Oyebamiji represents a better alternative for the state’s future. The appeal adds to growing calls from political leaders and other stakeholders for a peaceful election, with concerns over violence, vote-buying and other electoral offences remaining prominent ahead of August 15. Authorities and election stakeholders are expected to maintain heightened security across the state to protect voters and ensure that the outcome reflects the will of the electorate.
