At least 16 people have been rescued alive following the collapse of a residential building in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, with the Kano State Fire Service receiving a distress call at about 4:32am before immediately deploying emergency personnel to the scene. The building, reportedly measuring about 20 by 30 feet, collapsed while occupants were inside, prompting a rescue operation by emergency responders.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed that 16 victims were rescued from the rubble, with three of them found unconscious during the operation. The rescued victims were subsequently attended to following the incident, while emergency personnel continued efforts to ensure that no one remained trapped beneath the collapsed structure. The circumstances surrounding the collapse were not immediately established, although the incident has renewed concerns about building safety and the need for proper construction standards in densely populated communities.
