Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has approved the deployment of new Commissioners of Police to eight state commands and several strategic police formations across the country as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve operational efficiency. The redeployment, which received the endorsement of the Police Service Commission, affects Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Jigawa and Plateau states, alongside a number of specialised formations within the Nigeria Police Force. The latest reshuffle follows the recent promotion of several senior officers and is aimed at ensuring experienced leadership across key commands.
According to a statement issued by the Force Headquarters, the newly posted commissioners are expected to assume duty immediately and intensify intelligence-led policing, crime prevention and community engagement in their respective jurisdictions. The Inspector-General charged the officers to uphold professionalism, accountability and respect for the rule of law while working closely with local communities and other security agencies to tackle insecurity. The redeployment also includes appointments to strategic formations considered vital to the force’s operational and investigative responsibilities.
The police leadership described the exercise as part of ongoing reforms designed to strengthen command structures and improve service delivery nationwide. The affected commissioners are expected to build on existing security efforts by addressing emerging threats such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other violent crimes within their areas of responsibility. The Force Headquarters expressed confidence that the new postings would enhance operational effectiveness, improve public confidence in policing and contribute to a safer environment across the country.
