The Kwara State Government has announced that 176 people abducted during the February 3, 2026, attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained their freedom after spending about six months in captivity. The government confirmed the development on Wednesday, describing it as a major breakthrough in ongoing security efforts.
In a statement, the state expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, local vigilantes and everyone who contributed to securing the victims’ release. However, authorities did not immediately disclose the circumstances surrounding their freedom or whether any conditions were attached to their release.
The victims were kidnapped during one of the deadliest attacks in Kwara State this year, which claimed hundreds of lives and displaced many residents. Their release has been welcomed by families and community leaders, with calls for sustained security operations to prevent similar attacks and restore lasting peace in the affected communities.
