The Northern Senators Forum has praised President Bola Tinubu for approving a new salary structure for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing the decision as a significant boost to troop welfare and national security. The lawmakers said the pay increase demonstrates the administration’s commitment to recognising the sacrifices of military personnel and improving their morale as they confront security challenges across the country.
In a statement issued by the forum’s chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the senators said better remuneration would strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces while encouraging greater dedication among personnel. They also welcomed the Federal Government’s broader military reforms, including the expansion of the Nigerian Army and the recruitment of additional troops to enhance the country’s security architecture.
The forum urged the government to ensure the prompt implementation of the new salary package and sustain investments in military equipment, training and logistics. According to the senators, improved welfare, alongside adequate operational support, is essential to boosting the Armed Forces’ capacity to tackle insecurity and protect lives and property nationwide.
