The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has rejected allegations by a University of Ibadan professor, Ademola Dasylva, that he arrived three hours late to a university event without offering an apology. The monarch described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that his attendance followed the programme agreed upon with the organisers.

In a statement issued by the palace, the Alaafin explained that he was not scheduled to be present at the beginning of the event and therefore could not have been late. The palace also maintained that the monarch honoured the organisers’ invitation as planned and urged the public to disregard reports suggesting he disrupted the programme through lateness.

The palace further called for accuracy in public commentary involving traditional institutions, stressing that the Alaafin remains committed to respecting official engagements and preserving the dignity of the Oyo throne.
