A Nigerian content creator, Becca Oluwabukola, has revealed that her activity on TikTok allegedly led to the loss of her job at a commercial bank. Speaking in a viral video, she said she was asked to resign after the bank concluded that some of her online content violated its internal social media policy, despite insisting that she created the videos outside working hours and never disclosed confidential information.
Becca explained that she had initially tried to balance her banking career with content creation but was eventually summoned by management over her growing online presence. According to her, she was informed that her videos did not align with the institution’s professional standards, leaving her with no option but to leave the job. She said the experience was painful but also became a turning point that encouraged her to focus fully on content creation.
Her story has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users debating whether employers should regulate workers’ personal online activities. While some defended the bank’s right to enforce workplace policies, others argued that employees should be free to create content in their private time, provided it does not compromise their employer’s reputation or breach confidentiality.
