The Osun State Police Command has released the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, less than 24 hours after his arrest in connection with an investigation into alleged electoral offences. His release was announced by the spokesperson of the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, while the police confirmed that investigations into the case are still ongoing.
Igbalaye was detained after police raided his residence and claimed to have recovered ₦4.8 million in cash, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), a voter register, and other materials. The command also alleged that one of the individuals arrested at the residence was a wanted murder suspect. Authorities said the probe would continue despite the SSG’s release.
The arrest had triggered sharp criticism from the Osun State Government, which described the operation as politically motivated and aimed at intimidating officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Following his release, the Imole Campaign Council welcomed the decision and commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police for responding to public concerns.
