\n\nPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the activities of a fictitious organisation known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), following revelations that the body was never legally established by the Federal Government.
According to a statement released by the Presidency, the President ordered the anti-corruption agency to conclude its investigation within 30 days and submit a detailed report. The directive came after authorities discovered that an individual allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the fake council while claiming to be a presidential appointee.
Investigators are expected to examine forged appointment letters, fake government documents, alleged attempts to obtain diplomatic recognition and visa support, as well as the opening of multiple bank accounts under the names of non-existent government agencies. The probe will also identify anyone—whether public officials, financial institutions, or private individuals—who may have assisted or benefited from the scheme.
President Tinubu stressed that the integrity of the Presidency and federal institutions must be protected against impersonation, document forgery, and abuse of public trust. He further instructed all ministries, departments, and agencies to cooperate fully with the ICPC throughout the investigation.
Beyond identifying those directly involved, the investigation will also review weaknesses in government procedures that may have allowed the fraudulent operation to appear legitimate. The President has requested recommendations aimed at strengthening institutional safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The case has generated widespread public attention and renewed discussions about accountability, transparency, and the need for stronger verification processes within government institutions. Nigerians now await the outcome of the ICPC investigation, which is expected to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and recommend appropriate legal action against anyone found culpable.
