The Osun State Police Command has detained the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, along with five other individuals following a raid on a residence in Osogbo. Police said the operation was based on intelligence targeting a suspected criminal known as “Ashipa,” who was reportedly arrested at the property linked to the SSG. During the operation, officers said they recovered ₦4.8 million in cash, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and a voter register, prompting allegations of vote-buying ahead of the state’s governorship election.
The Osun State Government has condemned the arrests, describing the police action as unlawful and politically motivated. It alleged that security operatives raided the homes of several senior government officials without warrants, while supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign also accused the police of targeting members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.
The police, however, insist the operation was lawful and driven by criminal intelligence rather than politics. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities say all recovered items remain in police custody as they continue their inquiry into the allegations.
