Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has narrated how he escaped arrest during the Department of State Services (DSS) raid on his Ibadan home in July 2021. Speaking while hosting a delegation of Muslim clerics at his residence in Ibadan, Igboho claimed he remained inside the house throughout the operation despite security operatives surrounding the property. He alleged that the officers mistook a cat for him and even brought in what he described as a “fake herbalist” in an unsuccessful attempt to locate him.
According to Igboho, he never transformed into a cat, dismissing long-standing rumours surrounding his escape. He insisted that he stayed hidden inside the residence while watching the operation unfold, saying the security operatives searched extensively but failed to find him. His account offers a different perspective on one of Nigeria’s most controversial security operations in recent years.
The DSS raid on Igboho’s residence in July 2021 resulted in the arrest of several of his associates and the recovery of weapons, while the activist later fled Nigeria before being arrested in neighbouring Benin. He was eventually released after legal proceedings and has since resumed public engagements, continuing to advocate for the Yoruba Nation movement.
