The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that six people were directly involved in the mob torture and killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, a Jos-based model and University of Jos graduate popularly known as “Ibee.” Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo said four suspects have been arrested, while two others remain on the run. Investigators identified one of the key suspects as Emmanuel Newyear, who was allegedly seen assaulting the victim with a wooden plank during the attack.

According to the police, the command received information from a Good Samaritan that the victim had been rushed to hospital in critical condition after being attacked by a mob. Despite medical efforts, Mbaya later died from the injuries he sustained. Detectives immediately launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the initial suspects, whose statements reportedly helped identify and apprehend a fourth suspect. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining two suspects.

The Command condemned the killing, assuring the public that everyone involved would be brought to justice. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for an end to mob justice, with civil society groups and members of the University of Jos community urging Nigerians to allow law enforcement agencies to handle criminal allegations through due process.
