Former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said he prefers to offer private advice to President Bola Tinubu rather than publicly criticise his administration on television. Speaking during an interview on TVC News, Fashola revealed that the President regularly seeks his views on governance and areas requiring improvement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Fashola, maintaining a direct line of communication with the President is more effective than airing his opinions publicly. He said he has already shared advice with Tinubu on several issues and believes that preserving that access is in the country’s best interest. He added that publicly criticising someone whose attention he already has would serve little purpose.
Responding to questions about whether the administration has developed blind spots after three years in office, Fashola dismissed the suggestion, insisting that his private engagement with the President makes public commentary unnecessary. He also ruled out any ambition to contest for Nigeria’s presidency, saying his focus remains on contributing through counsel rather than seeking elective office.
