A past statement by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has resurfaced following his recent appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) by President Bola Tinubu. In the throwback interview, Fayose insisted he had no interest in serving in an All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government, declaring that he would rather remain at home than accept a political appointment.

Speaking during the interview, Fayose said that despite his cordial relationship with President Tinubu, he had made it clear that he did not want any government position. He stated that after serving two terms as governor, he preferred to focus on other aspects of his life, saying, “At 65, I’d rather be at home… I’ve served well. Two-time governor, I’ve done well.”

The comments have attracted renewed public attention after Tinubu appointed Fayose to chair the REA board. The appointment has sparked discussions over whether the former governor will accept the role, with his brother, Isaac Fayose, claiming that Ayodele Fayose would reject what he described as the appointment.
