The Osun State Police Command has arrested a suspected hoodlum following a violent clash between rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osogbo, which left three security operatives with gunshot injuries. The incident reportedly began after members of one faction protested being denied access to a motor park, leading to a confrontation that escalated into violence.
Police said officers responded swiftly to restore order, but later received a distress call that armed hoodlums were shooting indiscriminately in the Oke-Ijetu area of Osogbo. Operatives of the Anti-Robbery and Violent Crime Response Unit moved in, arrested one suspect, and recovered a locally made pistol, ammunition, and other incriminating items. Three security personnel injured during the operation are currently receiving medical treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, assured residents that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the violence. He urged members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and avoid taking part in actions capable of disrupting public peace and order.
