Four people believed to be herders were killed after unidentified gunmen attacked a residential settlement in Agu-Ifite, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The assailants also set two houses ablaze and reportedly slaughtered several cattle before fleeing the scene, triggering panic among residents.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the settlement in the early hours of Tuesday, opened fire on the victims, and set the buildings on fire during the assault. Security operatives later arrived at the scene, while the bodies of the victims were recovered and the affected area secured as investigations commenced.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident and said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. Authorities urged residents to remain calm, provide useful information to aid investigations, and refrain from taking actions that could escalate tensions in the area.
