Leaders from West African countries have signed a key agreement to advance the proposed $25 billion Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, a landmark energy project expected to boost regional integration, expand access to natural gas, and strengthen economic cooperation across the region. The agreement was signed during the 49th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja.
The pipeline will transport natural gas from Nigeria through several West African countries before reaching Morocco and eventually connecting to the European gas network. Once completed, the project is expected to improve energy security, encourage industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and provide cleaner energy to millions of people across participating countries.
Officials described the signing as a major milestone toward the implementation of one of Africa’s largest energy infrastructure projects. The initiative is also expected to deepen regional trade, attract significant investment, and reinforce cooperation among ECOWAS member states and Morocco in advancing sustainable economic development.
