The Kwara State Fire Service successfully contained a fire outbreak at a storey building in the Agbo Oba area of Ilorin, preventing the flames from spreading and saving 14 rooms from destruction. The fire, which broke out at about 2:03 p.m. on Monday, damaged four of the building’s 18 rooms before firefighters brought the situation under control.
According to the Head of Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, firefighters responded swiftly to the emergency at No. 40 Elesinla Compound, off Agbo-Oba Road, and successfully extinguished the blaze by 2:50 p.m. Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials inside the affected section of the building.
Following the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Chief Fire Superintendent Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to install standard electrical fittings and surge protection devices, regularly inspect electrical wiring, avoid overloading sockets, and promptly report fire outbreaks. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid emergency response and continuous public fire safety awareness.
