The Niger State Police Command has rescued a four-week-old baby allegedly abducted in Minna and arrested a fake pastor alongside a woman suspected of masterminding the crime. Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun said the suspects, Chidi Johnson, also known as “Yaron Pastor,” and Zainab Ibrahim, were apprehended following an intelligence-led investigation after the baby’s mother reported the abduction on July 14.
According to the police, Johnson confessed that Ibrahim, who allegedly suffered a miscarriage, had asked him to procure a newborn. Investigators said the suspect lured the nursing mother and her baby to the Kasuwan-Gwari area under the pretext of receiving food items and alms from a benefactor. After gaining the mother’s trust in an uncompleted building by offering snacks and soft drinks, Johnson allegedly fled with the infant through a rear exit on a motorcycle.
The police said the baby was successfully rescued and reunited with the mother, while both suspects remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations. Authorities confirmed they will be charged to court for prosecution and reiterated their commitment to tackling child abduction and related crimes across the state.
