The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a second suspect in connection with the alleged vandalism of the newly commissioned Angiama–Oporoma Bridge in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. Police spokesperson DSP Musa Mohammed said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by the State Criminal Investigation Department aimed at identifying those responsible for damaging the critical public infrastructure.
According to the police, the suspect, who had initially evaded arrest, was apprehended on July 14 at Obele Street in Yenagoa. He joins another suspect who was earlier arrested and remanded after allegedly being found with iron plates believed to have been removed from the bridge. Investigators said the case remains under active investigation and that the latest suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.
Commissioner of Police Iyamah Daniel Edebor reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure across the state and warned against acts of vandalism. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that anyone found sabotaging government assets would face the full weight of the law.
