Senior Advocate of Nigeria Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has strengthened her lead in the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election, moving closer to becoming the association’s first elected female president. According to figures from the Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA) results portal, she had secured 10,554 votes, representing 46.16% of the ballots counted as of Saturday evening.
Her closest challenger, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN), polled 7,020 votes (30.70%), while Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN) received 5,289 votes (23.13%). More than 22,800 votes had been counted at the time, with Badejo-Okusanya maintaining a lead of over 3,500 votes over her nearest rival. Voting had earlier been delayed after the ECNBA reported a cyberattack on its electronic voting platform, forcing an extension of the exercise.
Although the ECNBA had yet to officially declare the final result, the latest figures suggest that Badejo-Okusanya remains the frontrunner in the closely contested election. The poll has attracted widespread attention within the legal community, with members awaiting the official announcement of the association’s next president.
