The Federal Government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway. Minister of Works David Umahi announced the decision during a media briefing in Abuja, stating that the renaming recognises President Bola Tinubu’s long-standing vision for the landmark infrastructure project.
Umahi explained that the Ministry of Works, after consultations with its leadership, resolved to honour the President because he first conceived the idea for the coastal highway nearly three decades ago while serving as Governor of Lagos State. According to the minister, transforming that vision into a major national infrastructure project warranted the recognition.
The minister also disclosed that President Tinubu approved a 400-kilometre extension of the Fourth Legacy Highway, increasing its total length to about 1,100 kilometres, alongside the reconstruction of sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway using reinforced concrete pavement. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway remains one of Nigeria’s flagship road projects, designed to improve connectivity, trade, and economic development across several coastal states.
