FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive championship rings for the first time in the tournament’s history, introducing a tradition commonly associated with major North American sports such as the NFL, NBA and MLB. In addition to lifting the iconic World Cup trophy and receiving winners’ medals, every member of the victorious team will be presented with a bespoke championship ring to commemorate their achievement.
According to FIFA, a limited collection of 2,026 rings has been produced to mark the expanded 2026 tournament, with 30 rings reserved for the World Cup champions. The rings are designed to serve as a lasting symbol of the players’ historic accomplishment and reflect the tournament’s unique identity as the first to be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States. FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the initiative as a way of blending one of America’s most recognisable sporting traditions with football’s biggest competition.
The introduction of championship rings marks another significant innovation for the 2026 tournament, which is already the first World Cup to feature 48 teams and 104 matches. While the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy remains the sport’s ultimate prize, the new rings will provide players and staff with a permanent personal keepsake of their triumph, further enhancing the prestige of winning football’s most coveted title.
