The Oyo State Government has paid tribute to the teachers, civilians and security personnel who lost their lives during the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices made the successful rescue operation possible. In a memorial message released after the victims regained their freedom, the government said the fallen individuals demonstrated exceptional courage and commitment, assuring that their service and sacrifice would never be forgotten.
The state honoured the following individuals:
Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac – Nigerian Army officer.
Private Emmanuel Nnochirionye Sanmi Oyewole – Nigerian Army soldier.
Mrs. Abosede Alabi – Teacher.
Mr. Ganiyu Oladipo – Civilian volunteer.
Mr. Adebayo Azeez – Civilian volunteer.
Governor Seyi Makinde praised the bravery of the fallen heroes and extended condolences to their families, noting that their sacrifices contributed significantly to the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers after 56 days in captivity. The tribute comes amid widespread recognition of the rescue operation, with the Nigerian Senate also approving financial support for the bereaved families in honour of those who lost their lives during the mission.
