The Kogi State Government has disclosed that two of the National Examinations Council (NECO) candidates abducted during Tuesday’s attack on Government Secondary School, Olowa, in Dekina Local Government Area were writing their examinations at what it described as a “miracle centre”. The government also confirmed that a large-scale, multi-agency security operation is underway to rescue the four remaining victims still in captivity, including the school principal, a NECO official and two female candidates.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, preliminary investigations showed that the examination centre was located in a remote and vulnerable area and was allegedly being used as a “miracle centre” for external candidates. He said the two female candidates involved were not regular students of Government Secondary School, Olowa, and that the examination arrangements failed to comply with the state’s security framework for the ongoing NECO examinations. Despite these findings, the government stressed that every victim would be treated equally and that no effort would be spared to secure their safe release.
Governor Usman Ododo has directed a coordinated rescue mission involving the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Kogi State Vigilante Service, local hunters, and other security agencies. The government said advanced technology is also being deployed in the operation but declined to reveal further details to avoid compromising the rescue efforts. Residents have been urged to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in freeing the abducted victims.
