\n\nPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a full investigation into the controversial discovery of a fake federal agency that was reportedly allocated ₦1.3 billion in Nigeria’s 2026 budget and even assigned office space within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.
The agency, identified as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), is alleged to have operated using forged government documents, fake appointment letters, and falsified official signatures. Authorities say the suspect behind the scheme also allegedly met with foreign diplomats while falsely presenting himself as a government official.
The Presidency has denied any connection to the agency, insisting that the signatures of senior government officials were forged. President Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate how the fictitious agency made its way into the federal budget and obtained office space within a government complex.
The scandal has sparked widespread public concern, with many Nigerians questioning how a non-existent government body could receive official recognition and budgetary allocation without being detected earlier. Opposition figures and civil society groups have called for a transparent investigation to identify everyone involved and ensure those responsible are prosecuted.
Political analysts say the outcome of the probe could have significant implications for public confidence in government institutions, especially as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
