Peaceville International Academy in Ogun State has launched its first-ever poetry anthology, titled Echoes of Experiences, showcasing the literary works of 48 students. The collection, unveiled at the school’s campus in Redemption City, features poems written by students in Years 7 to 11 and captures their personal reflections, experiences and growth during the institution’s first three years. The initiative is aimed at nurturing creativity, encouraging self-expression and promoting a culture of writing among young learners.
Speaking at the launch, the school’s Head, Ms. Dolapo Fatoki, said the idea for the anthology was inspired by students’ habit of journaling and writing about their daily experiences. She explained that the poems were based on the school’s annual themes—”The Journey,” “Legacy in the Making,” and “Pressing Forward”—before being compiled and edited by teachers. Fatoki added that the anthology would be published once every three years, ensuring every student has the opportunity to contribute before graduating. One of the contributors, Oluwadamife Omojola, a Year 10 student, said writing her poems brought back emotional memories of the school’s pioneer class and strengthened her ambition to become a published author.
The book launch featured poetry recitals, a review of the anthology and recognition of students whose artworks were included in the publication. Guests also pledged financial support for the project, with Pastor Oluwagbemileke Adeboye donating ₦1 million toward the publication. Parents and education stakeholders commended the initiative, describing it as an investment in the creative potential of young Nigerians and urging more schools to create platforms that encourage literary expression.
