Nigeria Records Highest Crude Oil Production in Over Six Years
\n\nNigeria’s oil industry has reached a significant milestone after crude oil production climbed to its highest level in more than six years, surpassing the production quota assigned by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

According to official data released by the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the country produced an average of 1.56 million barrels of crude oil per day in June 2026, exceeding its OPEC target of 1.5 million barrels per day. When condensates are included, total daily oil production rose to approximately 1.735 million barrels, marking the fourth consecutive month of production growth.

Industry experts attribute the increase to improved pipeline security, fewer production disruptions, enhanced collaboration between government agencies and oil operators, and sustained efforts to curb crude oil theft. The latest figures represent Nigeria’s strongest production performance since April 2020.

The development is expected to provide a major boost to the nation’s economy. Higher oil production could translate into increased government revenue, stronger foreign exchange earnings, and improved fiscal stability, especially as the country continues implementing economic reforms aimed at attracting investment and strengthening public finances.

Analysts, however, note that sustaining the momentum will require continuous investment in oil infrastructure, stronger security around production facilities, and consistent policies that encourage both local and international investors. They also stress that while rising production is encouraging, Nigeria must continue diversifying its economy to reduce long-term dependence on crude oil exports.

The latest production figures come as global energy markets continue to monitor supply levels and geopolitical developments, placing Nigeria in a stronger position within the international oil industry.
