The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it recovered ₦5.79 billion in proceeds of crime between January and June 2026, describing the achievement as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability, protect public funds and support national security. The commission noted that corruption continues to weaken Nigeria’s security architecture by diverting resources meant for critical public services, adding that the recovered funds represent tangible progress in the fight against financial crimes.
According to the commission’s six-month performance report, the ICPC received 271 petitions, assigned 234 cases for investigation and filed 25 cases before various courts, leading to 20 convictions. Beyond enforcement, the agency conducted 33 systems studies and corruption risk assessments, carried out 42 corruption monitoring exercises, inaugurated 58 Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) across ministries, departments and agencies, and established 68 Anti-Corruption Clubs to promote integrity among young Nigerians. It also organised 291 public sensitisation programmes and conferences, reaching 199,291 participants nationwide.
The commission said these achievements reflect its commitment to building stronger institutions and improving public confidence in government. While acknowledging that the fight against corruption remains challenging, the ICPC maintained that its first-half performance in 2026 demonstrates measurable progress in asset recovery, public engagement and institutional reforms aimed at promoting transparency and accountability across the country.
