Nigeria’s Crude Oil Production Reaches Highest Level in More Than Six Years
\n\nNigeria’s oil sector has recorded a significant milestone as the country’s crude oil production climbed to its highest level in more than six years, surpassing the production target set by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

According to figures released by the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the country produced an average of 1.56 million barrels of crude oil per day in June 2026, exceeding its OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day. When condensates are included, Nigeria’s total daily oil production reached approximately 1.735 million barrels, marking the fourth consecutive month of production growth.

Industry experts attribute the increase to improved pipeline security, reduced crude oil theft, enhanced surveillance of oil facilities, and greater operational stability across key producing fields. The development is being viewed as a positive sign for Africa’s largest oil producer after years of struggling with vandalism, theft, and underproduction.

The rise in output is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings, improve government revenue, and provide additional support for the implementation of the 2026 national budget. Higher production could also boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry as the government continues efforts to attract fresh investments into the sector.

Economic analysts, however, note that maintaining the current production level will require sustained security efforts, continued investment in infrastructure, and policies that encourage oil companies to expand production while protecting national assets.

The achievement comes at a time when global energy markets remain volatile, making Nigeria’s improved production capacity an important factor in the country’s economic outlook.
