Gunmen Attack Benue Community After Funeral, Leaving Several Dead
\n\nFresh violence has once again shaken Benue State after gunmen attacked mourners shortly after a funeral ceremony in the Otukpo-Nobi community, killing at least eight people and injuring several others.

According to police authorities, the assailants stormed the community on Sunday and opened fire indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee for safety. In addition to the loss of lives, several homes and properties were reportedly set ablaze during the attack, leaving many families displaced.

The motive behind the attack has not been officially confirmed, but Benue State has continued to experience recurring violence linked to conflicts between farming communities and armed groups. The state remains one of Nigeria’s most affected regions by insecurity, with repeated incidents claiming hundreds of lives in recent years.

Following the latest assault, security operatives have been deployed to the affected area to restore calm and begin investigations. Authorities say efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible, while local leaders have renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities.

Human rights organizations have also condemned the attack, urging the Federal Government to intensify efforts to end the persistent bloodshed across Benue and other parts of the country. Community members, meanwhile, are calling for swift justice and lasting solutions to prevent further tragedies.

The latest incident has once again highlighted the security challenges facing rural communities in Nigeria and renewed concerns over the safety of residents in conflict-prone areas.
