\n\nThe Federal Government has continued its evacuation exercise for Nigerians stranded in South Africa, with another group of 282 citizens arriving safely in Abuja aboard the fourth repatriation flight.
The latest returnees include men, women, and children who voluntarily chose to come back to Nigeria following renewed concerns over safety, economic hardship, and recurring incidents affecting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa. Their arrival marks another phase of the government’s ongoing effort to assist Nigerians wishing to return home.
Officials from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant agencies were on hand to receive the returnees at the airport. The government assured them of temporary support and encouraged them to take advantage of available reintegration programmes designed to help them settle back into the country.
The evacuation exercise follows diplomatic engagements between Nigerian and South African authorities aimed at ensuring the safety and welfare of Nigerian citizens living in the country. While both governments continue to strengthen bilateral relations, concerns remain over isolated attacks and challenges faced by some members of the Nigerian community abroad.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerians wherever they reside and stated that additional support would be provided for citizens who decide to return voluntarily. Authorities also urged Nigerians living overseas to remain law-abiding and to make use of Nigerian diplomatic missions whenever they require assistance.
The successful arrival of the latest batch demonstrates the government’s continued efforts to respond to the needs of its citizens abroad while working to ensure their safe return and reintegration into society.
