The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the inability of opposition political parties to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for submitting candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections reflects what it described as their lack of preparedness for the polls. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said it successfully uploaded the names of all its candidates before the July 11 deadline, despite having a larger number of contestants across various elective positions.
According to the APC, although INEC later extended the submission deadline to July 14 following requests from opposition parties, the extension highlighted what it called the opposition’s inability to effectively manage its internal nomination process. The party argued that political parties that struggle to complete their own internal procedures on time cannot convince Nigerians that they are ready to govern the country. It also accused the opposition of hypocrisy, noting that parties which had previously alleged that the APC controlled INEC were the same ones that sought and received an extension from the electoral body.
The APC maintained that its timely submission of the particulars of its presidential, vice-presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates demonstrates its organisational strength, discipline and commitment to due process. The party urged its members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in its preparedness for the electoral contest.
