The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Anthony Osarobo, has been declared the winner of the Ovia South West Local Government chairmanship election in Edo State, becoming one of the youngest politicians elected to lead a local government in the state at the age of 30. The Returning Officer, Dr. Arodoye Nosakhare, announced that Osarobo secured 98,994 votes across the council’s 10 wards, defeating candidates from 11 other political parties.
Following his declaration, Osarobo expressed gratitude to the electorate for what he described as an overwhelming mandate, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in him through policies and programmes that would promote the development of Ovia South West. He promised to focus on grassroots governance and deliver on his campaign commitments. Edo State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Ikponmwonsa Omorodion, also commended the peaceful conduct of the election and expressed confidence that the chairman-elect would fulfil his promises to residents.
Meanwhile, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo praised the peaceful conduct of the local government election, describing voter turnout as encouraging and commending the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) for the early deployment of electoral officials, materials and security personnel. Election observers also reported that voting was generally peaceful across monitored areas, although some residents noted that turnout varied across different parts of the state. Results from other local government areas were still being awaited at the time of reporting.
