President Bola Tinubu has confirmed that no ransom was paid and no concession was made to secure the release of the pupils and teachers abducted by suspected Ansaru terrorists in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Announcing the successful rescue on his verified X account, the President said the victims were freed alive and unharmed after spending more than 50 days in captivity, describing the operation as a major success for Nigeria’s security agencies.
According to the Presidency, the rescue followed a coordinated operation by security forces, during which eight suspected kidnappers were arrested while several others were neutralised. The abductors had reportedly demanded the release of two detained Ansaru commanders, but the government refused to negotiate or grant any concessions. Tinubu praised the military, intelligence agencies and other security personnel for their professionalism and determination in bringing the victims home safely.
The President reiterated that his administration would not tolerate mass abductions or bow to terrorist demands, vowing to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks threatening lives across the country. He also thanked Nigerians for their patience and prayers throughout the ordeal, while assuring citizens that the government remains committed to protecting schools, restoring security and ensuring that those responsible for the abduction face justice.
