At least one person has died and three others sustained injuries after a two-storey building under construction collapsed on Sultan Road in Kano metropolis on Friday morning. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that the incident occurred at about 9 a.m., with emergency responders immediately mobilised to the scene to rescue trapped workers.

According to the Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, three victims were rescued alive from the rubble with varying degrees of injuries, while efforts to reach a fourth trapped worker ended tragically after he was found dead beneath the debris. Eyewitnesses said workers had noticed signs that the structure was becoming unstable and fled the site after an engineer reportedly warned them of the impending collapse, limiting the number of casualties.

Emergency officials have since secured the area while investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collapse. Authorities are expected to assess whether structural defects, construction practices or other factors contributed to the incident, as concerns continue over compliance with building safety standards in the state.
