The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected ritualists for allegedly being in possession of a human skull during an intelligence-led operation in Ijio, Iwajowa Local Government Area of the state. Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said the arrests followed credible intelligence about one of the suspects, leading officers to recover an object believed to be a human skull during the operation.
According to the command, the suspects were taken into custody while the recovered skull has been preserved as evidence and will undergo forensic examination to determine its origin. Police said investigations are ongoing to establish how the suspects came into possession of the skull and whether they are linked to other criminal activities. Authorities added that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police reassured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling ritual-related crimes and other forms of criminality across the state. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in preventing crime and ensuring public safety.
