A pregnant woman unexpectedly gave birth to a healthy baby boy while shopping for baby essentials at the popular Gbagi Market in Ibadan, Oyo State. The incident occurred on Monday evening when she suddenly went into labour before she could leave the market for a hospital, prompting traders and market women to spring into action.
Eyewitnesses said the market women quickly converted one of the shops into a temporary delivery room and assisted the expectant mother through childbirth. Their swift response ensured the baby was delivered safely before both mother and child were later taken to a hospital for further medical attention. The unusual event attracted a large crowd of traders and shoppers, many of whom praised the women for remaining calm and providing timely assistance.
Both the mother and her newborn son were reported to be in stable condition after the delivery. A video of the incident has since circulated widely on social media, with many Nigerians commending the compassion and teamwork displayed by the market women during the emergency.
