The embattled self-acclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, has defended his decision to establish the controversial organisation, insisting it was created to help attract foreign investment and intervention funds into Nigeria rather than to defraud the government. Adeyemi claimed the initiative was conceived as a platform to support economic development by connecting international investors, development partners and donor agencies with government projects.

Speaking on the controversy surrounding the council, Adeyemi maintained that the PFIPC was not set up for personal enrichment, arguing that his vision was to create an institution that would mobilise foreign resources to complement government efforts in infrastructure, healthcare, education and other critical sectors. He also denied allegations that he deliberately impersonated government officials or established the organisation solely to deceive public institutions, despite ongoing investigations by security agencies into the council’s activities.

The PFIPC has been at the centre of a major scandal after the Presidency declared it a fictitious agency and accused Adeyemi of operating a fraudulent scheme using forged government documents and official insignia. Investigations by the Department of State Services (DSS), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other agencies are ongoing, while lawmakers have also called for a full probe into how the organisation allegedly interacted with several government institutions before it was exposed.
