The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has directed Nigerian troops on the frontline to immediately engage and neutralise terrorists and bandits without waiting for additional authorisation once they have been deployed for operations. Speaking in Sokoto State during the commissioning of 62 operational vehicles and security equipment worth about ₦27.1 billion, Musa stressed that soldiers must act decisively against armed criminals in the interest of national security.
The minister warned that any soldier who fails to confront terrorists on the grounds of awaiting further instructions would be treated as aiding criminal elements. He emphasised that troops are expected to respond swiftly to threats in accordance with their operational mandate, adding that the Federal Government remains committed to providing the military with the equipment and support needed to defeat insecurity across the country.
Musa also commended the Sokoto State Government for investing in security infrastructure, describing the procurement of operational vehicles and equipment as a major boost to ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations. He called for continued collaboration between security agencies, state governments and local communities, noting that intelligence sharing and public support remain critical to restoring lasting peace in affected areas.
