President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch a comprehensive investigation into the activities of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The President ordered the anti-graft agency to conclude its investigation and submit a detailed report within 30 days, stressing that anyone found culpable should face the full weight of the law.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the probe will focus on allegations involving forged appointment letters, the use of falsified government documents, impersonation of public officials, and claims of presidential appointments allegedly used to obtain official recognition, diplomatic support, visa facilitation and the opening of multiple bank accounts in the names of non-existent government agencies. The investigation will also examine how the purported council was able to gain an appearance of legitimacy despite not being an authorised federal institution.
President Tinubu said the integrity of the Presidency and other government institutions must be protected from impersonation, forgery and abuse of official identity. The directive follows days of controversy surrounding the PFIPC after allegations emerged that the body, which reportedly appeared in budget documents, was not legally established by the Federal Government. The ICPC is expected to investigate both the principal individuals involved and any collaborators who may have facilitated the alleged scheme.
