The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has arrested 560 suspects during coordinated raids on identified crime hotspots across Abuja as part of an intensified crackdown on criminal activities. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi said the week-long intelligence-led operations targeted areas believed to be hideouts for criminals, leading to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, illicit drugs and other incriminating items.
According to Sanusi, items recovered during the raids included a locally fabricated pistol, a locally made AK-47 rifle and three rounds of 9mm live ammunition. He also disclosed that police dismantled a six-member kidnapping and “one chance” robbery syndicate, recovering the full ₦8.25 million ransom paid by one victim’s family, along with operational vehicles, stolen phones, jewellery, laptops and other valuables. Four additional suspects linked to kidnapping, ammunition supply and drug trafficking were also arrested during separate operations in Kwali, Abaji and Kuje Area Councils.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations to rid the Federal Capital Territory of criminal elements. He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to improving safety and protecting lives and property across Abuja.
