The Kano State Fire Service has disclosed that it responded to 30 fire incidents across the state in June 2026, during which five people lost their lives and property worth more than ₦120.4 million was destroyed. Despite the losses, the agency said it successfully saved property valued at about ₦481.8 million, while also handling seven rescue operations, recording one false alarm, and rescuing three people from emergency situations.

The figures were contained in the agency’s monthly operational report released by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi. Reacting to the report, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to exercise greater caution when handling fire, stressing the need to ensure that all sources of fire are completely extinguished after use to prevent avoidable outbreaks. He also advised parents and guardians to keep children away from ponds, rivers, uncovered wells and other water bodies to reduce drowning incidents.

The fire service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt emergency response, public safety awareness and stronger community cooperation. It called on residents to adopt preventive safety measures and report emergencies promptly to minimise casualties and property damage across the state.
