The Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have offered sharply different interpretations of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent meeting with Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s successor, IGP Olatunji Disu, following his security visit to the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election. During the visit, the IGP disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police had reported intelligence alleging that some wanted suspects were hiding in the Government House—an allegation Governor Adeleke firmly denied, insisting that security agencies should arrest and prosecute anyone found to have broken the law, regardless of political affiliation.
Reacting to the meeting, the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, accused the IGP of making remarks capable of emboldening criminals, questioning why no action had been taken if such intelligence had existed for two years. Alimi argued that raising the allegation publicly without prior enforcement amounted to subtle blackmail and suggested it could reinforce claims previously made by the opposition APC.
The APC, however, dismissed the state government’s position, describing Alimi’s comments as misplaced and politically motivated. The party insisted that the police should thoroughly investigate the allegations and extend any security operation to all locations where wanted suspects may be hiding, including residences linked to government officials. It also accused the Adeleke administration of politicising security issues, maintaining that criminal allegations should be addressed through law enforcement rather than partisan exchanges.
