Police in Cross River State have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of Blessing Ayebe, whose body was discovered inside the toilet of a church in the Ikot Ansa area of Calabar Municipality. According to police and family sources, Ayebe attended a church service on June 28 but never returned home. Her body was found around 9 p.m. on June 29, prompting concerns from relatives who had reported her missing.
Her daughter, Peace Ayebe, officially reported her disappearance at the Federal Housing Police Station in Calabar on July 1, after being informed by her brother, Saviour Ayebe, that their mother could not be found. The body has since been deposited at a mortuary for preservation, while an autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death. Police said preliminary findings have not revealed evidence of foul play, and no suspect has been arrested at this stage.
The Cross River State Police Command, through its spokesperson ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further information would be released as more facts emerge. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and avoid speculation until the outcome of the investigation and autopsy is known.
