Osasere Okundaye, Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant, has shared that her journey to making history at just 16 years old was not without setbacks, revealing that she failed one of her final Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examinations before eventually passing. Speaking during a visit to the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) headquarters, she said the disappointment did not stop her from pursuing her goal, as she remained determined to rewrite the examination and succeed.
Okundaye explained that becoming a chartered accountant took three years of disciplined study, resilience and hard work. She noted that she was not originally an accounting student, making the achievement even more remarkable. Her success saw her break the previous national record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who qualified as Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 17.
Her achievement has drawn widespread praise from government officials, professional bodies and members of the public, with many describing her story as an inspiration to young Nigerians. Okundaye encouraged students not to give up after experiencing failure, stressing that perseverance, discipline and self-belief can help overcome setbacks and lead to extraordinary accomplishments.
