The All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing growing criticism after controversy erupted over its National Assembly candidates’ list, with allegations that the names of some aspirants who reportedly won the party’s primaries were replaced before the list was submitted. The development has sparked fresh debate about internal democracy within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Opposition parties condemned the alleged substitutions, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accusing the APC of undermining the integrity of its own primary elections. The Labour Party (LP) described the alleged alterations as undemocratic, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) said the incident raised serious concerns about transparency in the party’s candidate selection process.

Responding to the criticism, the APC dismissed the attacks and urged opposition parties to focus on resolving challenges within their own organisations instead of commenting on its internal affairs. The controversy has nevertheless intensified scrutiny of the party’s nomination process and could lead to legal and political disputes as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
