Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 42-year-old suspect, Bassey Udo Idiong, after he allegedly stormed a palace in Essien Udim Local Government Area armed with a locally made pistol and threatened to shoot the occupant. The arrest followed a distress call received through the Command Control Room in Uyo on the night of July 1, prompting officers to respond swiftly to the scene.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, officers professionally disarmed the suspect without any exchange of gunfire and recovered the locally fabricated pistol as evidence. The police described the operation as another success in the command’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and improve security across the state. The suspect remains in custody while investigators work to determine the motive behind the alleged attack and whether others were involved.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to continue providing timely information on suspicious activities. Police also assured the public that anyone found to be involved in criminal acts would be prosecuted in accordance with the law as investigations into the incident continue.
